How Long Does a Custom Kitchen Really Take? A Triad Renovation Timeline
From first measure to final drawer pull — a realistic week-by-week look at a custom kitchen build in Winston-Salem, Greensboro, or Durham.
The most common question we get on a first call isn't about price — it's about time. Here's what a real custom kitchen project looks like from the moment you call us to the day you cook the first meal.
Weeks 1–2: Consultation and measure
We visit your home, understand how you cook, and take a full field measure. Nothing is designed yet — we're gathering.
Weeks 3–5: Design and material selection
You'll see elevations, 3D renderings, and physical samples of wood species and finishes. This is where most of the meaningful decisions get made — and where slowing down saves you from regret later.
Weeks 6–10: Shop build
Once the design is signed off, cabinets are built in our Yadkinville workshop. Solid wood face frames, dovetailed drawers, hand-applied finish. Lead time depends on wood species (walnut runs longer than maple) and finish complexity.
Weeks 11–12: Install
The same team that built the cabinets installs them. A standard kitchen installs in 4 to 7 working days. Countertop templating happens at day 2 of install; stone typically returns 10 to 14 days later.
Total: 12 to 16 weeks from first call to first meal
If someone promises you 6 weeks, they're either using stock cabinets or cutting corners on finish. A properly built and finished custom kitchen simply takes time — and the timeline is the reason it lasts.
